STITCH NATION by Debbie Stoller™ “Alpaca Love™” 5 skeins each 3580 Dusk A and 3650 Lotus B, 6 skeins 3920 Ruby C.
 
Crochet Hook: 5.5 mm [US I-9]
Yarn Needle
 
Gauge Finished square = 8" x 8". CHECK YOUR GAUGE. Use any size hook to obtain the gauge.
 
SPECIAL ABBREVIATIONS
Beginning Cluster: Yo, insert hook in st, yo and pull up a loop, yo and pull through 2 loops on hook, yo, insert hook in same st, yo and pull up a loop, yo and pull through 2 loops on hook, yo and pull through all 3 loops on hook.
Cluster: Yo, insert hook in st, yo and pull up a loop, yo and pull through 2 loops on hook, (yo, insert hook in same st, yo and pull up a loop, yo and pull through 2 loops on hook) twice, yo and pull through all 4 loops on hook.
Picot: Ch 3, slip st in third ch from hook.
 
Make 30 blocks according to color sequence:
Square 1 (make 5): 1 round A, 1 round C, 2 rounds B, 2 rounds A
Square 2 (make 5): 1 round C, 1 round B, 2 rounds A, 2 rounds C
Square 3 (make 5):  1 round B, 1 round A, 2 rounds C, 2 rounds B
Square 4 (make 5): 1 round A, 1 round B, 2 rounds C, 2 rounds A
Square 5 (make 5):  1 round C, 1 round A, 2 rounds B, 2 rounds C
Square 6 (make 5): 1 round B, 1 round C, 2 rounds A, 2 rounds B
 
SQUARE
Ch 5, join with slip st in first ch to form ring.
Round 1 (right side): Ch 5 (count s as tr, ch 1), (tr in ring, ch 1) 15 times; join with a slip st in fourth ch of starting ch 5 – 16 ch-1 spaces. Fasten off.
Round 2:With right side facing, join next color with slip st in any ch-1 space, ch 2, beginning cluster in same sp, ch 2, (cluster, ch 2) in each ch-1 space around; join with slip st in beginning cluster – 16 clusters. Fasten off.
Round 3:With right side facing, join next color with slip st in any ch-2 space, ch 3, 3 dc in same sp, *ch 1, sc in next ch-2 space, (ch 2, sc in next ch-2 space) twice, ch 1, (4 dc, ch 2, 4 dc) in next ch-2 space; repeat from * twice more, ch 1, sc in next ch-2 space, (ch 2, sc in next ch-2 space) twice, ch 1, 4 dc in same ch-2 space as first 4 dc of round, ch 1, sc in top of beginning ch 3.
Round 4: Ch 3, 3 dc in space formed by last ch 1 and sc, *skip next ch-1 space, (ch 1, 4 dc in next ch-2 space) twice, ch 1, skip next ch-1 space, (4 dc, ch 3, 4 dc) in next ch-2 corner space; repeat from * twice more, skip next ch-1 space, (ch 1, 4 dc in next ch-2 space) twice, ch 1, skip next ch-1 space, 4 dc in same sp as first 4 dc of round, ch 3, join with slip st to top of beginning ch 3. Fasten off.
Round 5:With right side facing, join next color with slip st in any corner ch-3 space, ch 3, 3 dc in same space, *(4 dc in next ch-1 space) 3 times, (4 dc, ch 3, 4 dc) in corner ch-3 space; repeat from * twice more, (4 dc in next ch-1 space) 3 times, 4 dc in same ch-3 space as first 4 dc of round, ch 3; join with slip st tbl ONLY of top of beginning ch 3.
Round 6: Ch 1, working tbl ONLY, sc in same loop as joining and next 19 dc, 3 sc in corner ch-3 space, (working tbl ONLY, sc in next 20 dc, 3 sc in corner ch-3 space) 3 times, join with slip st to both loops of first sc. Fasten off. Weave in ends.

ASSEMBLY
With right sides held together and working tbl ONLY, whipstitch squares together with matching colors of yarn into 6 rows of 5 squares each, following diagram for square placement. Whipstitch rows together to form afghan.
 
BORDER
Round 1: With right side facing and working tbl ONLY, join C with slip st tbl of center sc of any 3 sc corner, ch 3, 2 dc in same st, [dc in each sc and joining to center sc of next corner, 5 dc in corner sc] 3 times, dc in each sc to beginning of round, 2 dc in same st as first 3 dc, join with slip st to both loops of top of beginning ch-3 – 536 dc.
Round 2: Ch 3, working in both loops of sts, dc in same st, [dc in each dc to center dc of next corner, 4 dc in corner dc] 3 times, dc in each dc to beginning of rnd, join with slip st to top of beginning ch-3 – 548 dc. Fasten off. 
Round 3: With right side facing, join B with slip st tbl ONLY of any dc in round 2, working tbl ONLY, ch 1, sc in same st, and next 2 sts, Picot, *sc in next 3 dc, Picot; repeat from * around, join with slip st in first sc. Fasten off. Weave in ends.
