To Fit Women's Shoe Size: 7-9 (9-11, 11-12).
 
Directions are for size Small; changes for sizes Medium and Large are in parentheses.
 
Sock circumference: 8 (8¾, 8¾).
Sock foot length: 9¾ (10¼, 10¾).
 
STITCH NATION by Debbie Stoller™ “Washable Ewe™”: 2 (2, 3) balls 3706 Zinnia.
 
Double Pointed Knitting Needles: 3.75mm [US 5].
Stitch markers (5), yarn needle.
 
GAUGE: 24 sts = 4"; 32 rounds = 4" in St st. CHECK YOUR GAUGE. Use any size needle to obtain the gauge.
 
Special Abbreviations
Ssk = Slip next 2 sts knitwise, one at a time to right needle; insert point of left needle into the fronts of these 2 sts and knit them together from this position.
 
Lace Heart Panel (work following chart over 19 sts).
Rounds 1 - 5: Knit.
Round 6: K4, yo, k4tog, yo, k3, yo, k4tog, yo, k4–17 sts.
Rounds 7, 9, 11, 13, 15 and 17: Knit.
Round 8: K3, yo, ssk, k3, yo, k1, yo, k3, k2tog, yo, k3–19 sts.
Round 10: K3, k2tog, yo, k9, yo, ssk, k3.
Round 12: K4, k2tog, yo, k7, yo, ssk, k4.
Round 14: K5, k2tog, yo, k5, yo, ssk, k5.
Round 16: K6, k2tog, yo, k3, yo, ssk, k6.
Round 18: K7, k2tog, yo, k1, yo, ssk, k7.
Repeat Rounds 1 - 18 for pattern.
 
SOCKS
Cast on 70 (74, 76) sts.
Divide sts among 3 needles as follows: Needle 1: 23 (24, 25) sts; needle 2: 23 (25, 25) sts; needle 3: 24 (25, 26) sts. Place marker for beginning of round and join, being careful not to twist sts.
 
Cuff
Work in K1, p1 rib for 12 rounds.
 
Begin Lace Pattern
Work Round 1 of Lace pattern, placing markers as follows: k13 (14, 14) sts, place marker; k19 (19, 19) sts, place marker; k6 (8, 10) sts, place marker; k19 (19, 19) sts, place marker; knit remaining 13 (14, 14) sts.
 
Next Round (dec): K1, k2tog; work in pattern as established to last 3 sts, ssk–68 (72, 74) sts.
 
Continue in pattern as established, repeating Rounds 1 – 18, 4 (5, 5) times AND AT THE SAME TIME repeat dec round every 5th round 2 (2, 9) times, then every 6th round 8 (8, 2) times–48, (52, 52) sts.
 
Work even in St st until sock measures 12¾ (13¼, 13½)" or desired length to heel flap.
 
Divide for Heel
Knit across 12 (13, 13) sts on needle 1; divide next 24 (26, 26) sts onto 2 needles for heel. Continue on these sts only for heel, working back and forth in rows.
 
Heel
Row 1 (wrong side): Slip 1 purlwise, purl to end.
Row 2: * Slip 1 purlwise, k1; repeat from * across.
Repeat Rows 1 and 2 until 22 rows have been completed, then repeat Row 1 once more.
 
Turn Heel
Row 1 (right side): K14 (15, 15), ssk, k1, turn.
Row 2: Slip 1, p5, p2tog, p1, turn.
Row 3: Slip 1, k6, ssk, k1, turn.
Row 4: Slip 1, p7, p2tog, p1, turn.
Row 5: Slip 1, k8, ssk, k1, turn.
Row 6: Slip 1, p9, p2tog, p1, turn.
Row 7: Slip 1, k10, ssk, k1, turn.
Row 8: Slip 1, p11, p2tog, p1, turn.
Row 9: Slip 1, k12, ssk, k0 (1, 1), turn.
Row 10: Slip 1, p12 (13, 13), p2tog, p0 (1, 1), turn–14, 16, 16 sts).
Next Row: Knit to end of heel.
With same needle, pickup and k12 (12, 12) sts along side of heel; knit next 24 (26, 26) sts and place on
second needle; with third needle pickup and k12 (12, 12) sts along side of heel, k7 (8, 8) sts from needle 1. Needle 1: 19 (20, 20) sts; Needle 2: 24 (26, 26) sts; Needle 3: 19 (20, 20) sts–62 (66, 66) sts.
 
Gusset Shaping
Place a marker, join sts and continue in the round.
Round 1: Needle 1: knit to last 3 sts, k2 tog, k1; needle 2: knit even across; needle 3: k1, ssk, knit to end.
Round 2: Knit even around.
Repeat Rounds 1 and 2 until 48 (52, 52) sts remain.
 
Foot
Work even until foot measures 8 (8¼, 8¾)" from base of heel
 
Shape Toe
Round 1: Needle 1: knit to last 3 sts, k2tog, k1; needle 2: k1, ssk, knit to last 3 sts, k2tog, k1; needle 3: k1, ssk, knit to end.
Round 2: Knit even around.
Repeat Rounds 1 and 2 until 32 sts remain, then
repeat Round 1 until 12 sts remain.
With needle 3, work across needle 1–6 sts each needle. Cut yarn leaving a 16" tail.
 
 
 
FINISHING
Graft toe sts together using Kitchener stitch as follows:
 
Thread needle with remaining yarn. Hold the two needles with wrong sides together. Keeping the yarn needle and yarn under the points of the knitting needles, graft the stitches together as follows:
*1. Insert yarn needle through first st of front needle as if to knit and slip the st off.
2. Insert needle through 2nd st of front needle as if to purl, but leave the st on the needle.
3. Insert yarn through first st on back needle as if to purl and slip the st off.
4. Insert yarn through 2nd stitch on back needle as if to knit, but leave st on needle. Repeat from * until all the sts are joined. Take care to draw yarn up so that gauge of grafting equals gauge of knitting. Fasten off. Weave in yarn ends.
